Shopify gives you a solid starting point: reliable hosting, an automatic sitemap and editable titles and descriptions. But most stores we audit share the same hidden problems. Themes link to products through collection URLs, apps inject code that slows every page, tag and filter pages multiply, and product structured data is incomplete. None of this shows on the front end, but all of it affects how Google crawls and ranks your store.
Our Shopify SEO work fixes those issues inside the platform, without fighting it. We tidy up how your theme links to products, audit the apps adding weight to your pages, decide which collection, tag and filter pages deserve to be indexed, and complete the product data Google reads, from price and availability to variants, shipping and returns. Then we improve your collection and product content so it helps shoppers choose, and connect your catalogue to Merchant Center through the Google & YouTube app. Progress is tracked in your own Search Console and Shopify analytics. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, so we won’t. We’ll show you exactly what changed.
Request a Free Shopify AuditShopify handles a lot for you, but its themes, apps and URL structure create issues other platforms don't have. Here's how our Shopify SEO covers each part of your store, based on what Google's own Search Central documentation recommends.
Every Shopify product can be reached through its main /products/ URL and through collection paths like /collections/shoes/products/. Shopify points the canonical tag at the main URL, but many themes still link to the collection version, so Google keeps crawling duplicates. We update your theme so internal links go straight to the main product URL, check canonical tags, clean up tag pages and sort options, and edit robots.txt.liquid only where it genuinely helps.
Collection pages usually target your most valuable searches, like "linen bedding" or "men's hiking boots". We match each collection to the searches it should win, add short, genuinely useful intro copy, write clear titles and meta descriptions, and merge collections that compete with each other. Where a filtered view deserves its own page, we build it as a proper collection instead of a filter URL.
We rewrite key product titles and descriptions with the details shoppers look for: size, material, fit, compatibility and care. Rather than copying the supplier's text, we add information that helps buyers decide, using metafields for specifications where your theme supports them. Images get descriptive filenames and alt text in the Shopify admin. Variants are set up so each size or colour doesn't compete with the others, and discontinued products are redirected with Shopify's URL redirects to the closest genuine replacement, or left to return a proper 404.
Every app you install can add scripts that load on every page, and some leave code behind after you uninstall them. We audit your apps and theme code, remove what isn't used, and work on the Core Web Vitals issues that matter most on mobile collection and product pages, where most shoppers browse. We also check that lazy-loaded products and images load as shoppers scroll rather than after a click, because Googlebot doesn't click or interact with your pages. Faster pages help shoppers first, and Google notes a fast page usually beats a slow one for user satisfaction.
Most themes output basic Product structured data, but it's often incomplete or duplicated by review apps. We fix and validate it, including price, availability, brand, GTIN, variants, shipping and returns, and keep it consistent with your Merchant Center feed, so your products are eligible for rich results and free listings.
Our Shopify SEO audit is a practical review of your store, theme and apps. We check how many of your pages Google has indexed, whether your theme links to duplicate product URLs, which apps are slowing your pages, whether your product structured data has errors in Search Console, and whether your collections compete with each other. You'll get a prioritised list of fixes, most important first, noting which need theme changes and which can be done in the Shopify admin.

Paid ads stop working the day your budget does. Organic visibility keeps bringing shoppers between campaigns, and every well-ranked collection or product page can sell month after month without a cost per click. Shopify SEO doesn't replace ads for most stores; it works best alongside them. Ads cover launches and peak season, while organic search builds a steady base of sales so you aren't paying for every visitor. And when ad costs rise, as they often do in peak season, that organic base cushions the impact.
Most Shopify SEO issues are invisible when you browse your own store. Duplicate product URLs, bloated app code and missing product data don't look broken to shoppers, but they affect how Google crawls and understands your pages. Fixing them once, at the theme level, often lifts every collection and product page together, which is why we start there before writing anything new.
Shoppers see products in the Shopping tab, Google Images, free product listings and AI Overviews, not just text results. Google's guidance for all of these comes back to the same basics: crawlable pages, accurate structured data and a well-maintained Merchant Center feed. Shopify makes the feed easier through the Google & YouTube app, and Google's own documentation points stores to Merchant Center to help products appear in AI features. We make sure your store is eligible across these surfaces and keep feed and page data consistent, because mismatched prices can get products disapproved.
Search results can show price, availability, shipping and returns information, and review ratings next to your products before anyone visits your store. Accurate product data gives shoppers confidence to click and sets the right expectations before they land. We only mark up what's genuinely on your pages: real prices, real stock levels and genuine customer reviews collected through your review app, because Google's structured data guidelines require it. For shipping and returns, we can add merchant policy markup so that information can appear alongside your products in search results.
A well-built collection page can keep earning sales for years, especially when it's kept up to date as your range changes. Shopify SEO isn't set-and-forget: themes get updated, apps get added and competitors keep improving, so we recheck your store after theme updates and new app installs. But the foundations we build, clean URLs, fast pages, strong collections and reliable product data, keep paying off long after the work is done. And when Google releases a core update, we review your own data calmly before changing anything.
Every Shopify store is set up differently, with its own theme, apps and catalogue, so we don't start with a package. We start with your data. You'll know what we're doing, why we're doing it and what we expect it to change before work begins, and you'll work directly with the people doing the work. No guarantees of rankings, just clear work.
Talk to Our TeamWe review your Search Console, Shopify analytics and Merchant Center, crawl your store the way Google does, and go through your theme code and installed apps. You get a clear picture of where sales are being lost. This usually takes one to two weeks.
We map every important search to one collection or product, decide which tag and filter pages should be indexed, and agree priorities with you. This stops your own pages competing with each other. Theme changes are made on a duplicate theme first, and nothing is published until you approve it.
Theme and URL fixes come first, then app clean-up and speed work, then your highest-value collections and products. We validate your structured data along the way and preview every change before it goes live on your store.
Each month we expand collection content, strengthen internal links and build authority. You get a plain-English report from your own accounts showing clicks, orders and revenue from organic search, plus what's next.

Rankings are a means, not the goal. We use Shopify’s reports and Google Analytics to track orders and revenue from organic search, alongside Search Console data on clicks and impressions. When a collection climbs but sales don’t follow, we look at why: the wrong search intent, a weak product page or a price that isn’t competitive. Every recommendation is tied to a page and a reason, so you can always see how our Shopify SEO work connects to your bottom line.
We won’t take on a store that competes directly with yours for the same products in the same market while we’re working together. Your collection strategy, keyword research and growth plans stay with you. If a potential client would put us in that position, we tell them up front and step back.
Because we also build Shopify stores, fixes that need theme changes don’t sit in a queue waiting for another agency. Our team works in Liquid, theme settings and the Shopify admin every week. store, we cleaned up 1238 duplicate URLs and organic revenue grew 81% over 6 month. Our recommendations get implemented, not just listed in a report.
Everything we report comes from accounts you own: Shopify, Search Console, Google Analytics and Merchant Center. We work as a collaborator on your store, so you can remove our access at any time. You’ll see exactly what we changed each month and why, what worked and what didn’t. If something isn’t working, we’ll say so and explain what we’re changing. Reports are written in plain English, with the numbers explained rather than just exported. And if you move on, your theme, data and content stay with you.
Because we also run Google Ads and build Shopify stores, we can join the dots. Ads data shows which searches actually convert, which shapes your Shopify SEO priorities, and theme changes are handled by the same team that plans them. One team, one plan and one monthly report covering every channel we manage for you, without waiting on three different timelines.
A theme update or a new app can quietly undo good work. We make changes on a duplicate theme first, keep a record of every edit, and recheck key templates after theme updates or new app installs. Before busy periods like Black Friday, Christmas and your market’s own sale seasons, we make sure collection and gift pages are live and indexed early, and we avoid risky changes during your peak trading weeks.
Share your store URL and your biggest challenge. We'll reply with honest next steps, even if that isn't hiring us.

Straight answers to the Shopify SEO questions we hear most from store owners, based on our experience and on what Google's own Search Central documentation says.
Is Shopify good for SEO?
Yes, Shopify is a solid platform for SEO. It handles hosting, HTTPS and your sitemap automatically, and lets you edit titles, descriptions, URLs and redirects. Its limits are fixed URL paths like /products/ and /collections/, plus themes and apps that can add duplicate links and slow code. Good Shopify SEO means working with those limits rather than against them, so the platform’s strengths aren’t undone by your theme.
Do /collections/…/products/ URLs cause duplicate content?
They create duplicate URLs for the same product, but Shopify adds a canonical tag pointing to the main /products/ URL, and Google doesn’t penalise duplicate content in itself. The real cost is wasted crawling and mixed signals when your theme keeps linking to the collection version. Google treats canonical tags as a hint, not a rule, so we fix the theme to link directly to the main product URL. It’s usually a small change with a clean result.
Should I delete out-of-stock products in Shopify?
Not if they’re coming back. Keep the product live, show it’s out of stock, and make sure your structured data shows the correct availability. If a product is gone for good, use Shopify’s URL redirects to send it to a genuinely relevant replacement, or let it return a proper 404. Don’t redirect everything to your homepage, and don’t leave a page that says “not found” while returning a normal status, because Google treats that as a soft 404.
Will moving to Shopify hurt my rankings?
It can, if URLs change without a plan. Shopify uses fixed URL patterns, so most migrations change almost every URL on the site. We build a complete old-to-new URL map, set up permanent redirects in Shopify, update internal links, submit a fresh sitemap and monitor Search Console closely after launch. Google says rankings can fluctuate during a move and medium sites often take a few weeks to settle, but careful redirects protect the rankings you’ve already earned.
Do Shopify SEO apps fix everything?
They help with routine tasks like bulk editing meta tags or alt text, but no app can decide your store structure, write genuinely helpful content or fix theme-level issues. Some apps also add structured data that duplicates what your theme already outputs, creating conflicting markup. We review what your apps actually do, keep the useful ones and remove the rest. Good Shopify SEO is mostly decisions and content, not plugins.
