Most online stores don’t have a traffic problem; they have a findability problem. Category pages compete with each other, filters create thousands of near-duplicate URLs, and product pages reuse the same manufacturer description that dozens of other retailers publish. Google spends its time crawling the wrong pages, and the pages that should earn sales never get the visibility they deserve.
Our eCommerce SEO work fixes that from the foundation up. We map every important search to one page, clean up how filters and variants are crawled, and make your product information clear to Google through structured data and your Merchant Center feed. Then we improve the category and product content shoppers actually use to decide, and track progress in your own Search Console and Analytics, measured in orders and revenue, not just rankings. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we commit to is doing the work properly and showing you exactly what changed each month.
Request a Free Store AuditeCommerce SEO comes with challenges other websites don't have: thousands of URLs, products that come and go, variants, filters and prices that change often. Here's how we handle each part of your store, based on what Google's own documentation recommends.
In eCommerce SEO, category pages usually carry the most valuable searches in a store, like "women's running shoes" or "outdoor dining sets". We match each category to the searches it should win, add short, genuinely useful copy that helps shoppers choose, merge or fix thin and duplicate categories, and strengthen internal links so Google understands which pages matter most. When a category and a filtered page compete for the same search, we decide which one should rank and make the other support it.
Product pages win when they answer a buyer's questions better than anyone else. We rewrite key product titles and descriptions with the details shoppers look for, like size, material, fit and compatibility, improve image filenames and alt text, and make sure every product is reachable through a normal crawlable link. We also handle variants properly, so size and colour options don't split your visibility across dozens of URLs. Product pages are where eCommerce SEO turns visits into sales.
For Shopify stores, eCommerce SEO means managing a few platform habits. Products can be reached through collection URLs as well as their main /products/ URL, so we make sure internal links point to the right version. We review theme speed and the apps adding weight to every page, tidy up tag and filter pages, check the product structured data your theme outputs, and edit robots.txt.liquid when crawl control is genuinely needed. Moving to Shopify from another platform? We plan the redirects so existing rankings carry across. We also give collection pages useful intro copy, not just a grid of products.
Technical issues cause most eCommerce SEO problems. We check that Google can crawl and render your pages, that filters and sort options don't create endless duplicate URLs, and that pagination and "load more" buttons still give each set of products a real, crawlable URL. We handle out-of-stock and discontinued products the way Google recommends, fix canonical and redirect issues, and improve page speed on the mobile product pages where most of your shoppers browse and buy. Changing platform or URL structure? We build a full redirect map first, so the rankings you've already earned aren't lost in the move.
Product data is the part of eCommerce SEO most stores skip. We add and validate Product structured data, including price, availability, variants, shipping and returns, and connect it with your Merchant Center feed. This makes your products eligible for richer results and free Shopping listings. Eligibility isn't a guarantee of display, but without clean data your products can't compete there at all.
Our eCommerce SEO audit is a practical review of what's stopping your products from being found. We check how many of your pages Google has actually indexed, where filters and variants are creating duplicate URLs, whether your product structured data has errors in Search Console, which categories are competing with each other, and how fast your key pages load on mobile. You'll get a prioritised list of fixes, most important first. No jargon and no sales pitch dressed up as a report.

Paid ads stop the day your budget does. eCommerce SEO keeps working between campaigns, and each well-ranked category or product page can bring buyers month after month without a cost per click. SEO doesn't replace ads for most stores. It works best alongside them. Ads cover new launches and seasonal peaks, while SEO builds a steady base of sales so you aren't paying for every single visitor. Over time, that shifts more of your revenue onto channels you already own. And when ad costs rise, as they often do in peak season, a strong organic base cushions the impact.
People searching for a specific product or category are usually closer to buying than someone scrolling social media. When your pages match exactly what they search, including model, size or use case, the visitors you attract are more likely to add to cart. That's why our eCommerce SEO plans around search intent, not just search volume, and report on the sales organic traffic brings, not just the visits.
Shoppers don't only see text results anymore. Products can appear in the Shopping tab, Google Images, free product listings and AI Overviews. Google's guidance for all of these comes back to the same basics: crawlable pages, accurate structured data and a well-maintained Merchant Center feed. Google's own documentation even points online stores to Merchant Center to help their products appear in AI features. We make sure your store is eligible across every one of these surfaces, not just the traditional search results. We also keep your feed and on-page data consistent, because mismatched prices can get products disapproved.
Search results can show price, availability, shipping and return details, and review ratings next to your products before anyone visits your site. Accurate product data gives shoppers confidence to click, and helps set the right expectations before they land. We only mark up what's genuinely on your page. That means real prices, real stock levels and genuine customer reviews, because Google's structured data guidelines require it and because shoppers quickly lose trust in listings that don't match what they find on the page. For shipping and returns, we can add merchant policy markup so that information can appear alongside your products in search.
A well-structured category page can keep earning sales for years, especially when it's kept up to date as your range changes. eCommerce SEO isn't set-and-forget; products come and go and competitors keep improving. But the foundations we build, like a clean store structure, strong category pages and reliable product data, keep paying off long after the work is done. That's the difference between renting attention through ads and building an asset your business owns. And when Google releases a core update, we review your own data calmly before changing anything, rather than reacting to headlines.
Every store is different, so we don't start with an eCommerce SEO package. We start with your data. You'll know what we're doing, why we're doing it and what we expect it to change before work begins. And you'll work directly with the people doing your SEO, not an account manager relaying messages. No guarantees of rankings, just clear work.
Talk to Our TeamWe review your Search Console, Analytics and product feed, crawl your store the way Google does, and compare your key categories against the stores ranking above you. You get a clear picture of where sales are being lost. This usually takes one to two weeks.
We map every important search to one category or product page, decide how filters and variants should be handled, and agree priorities with you. This stops your own pages competing with each other and gives every fix a clear purpose, so effort goes into the pages most likely to bring sales. Nothing changes on the live store until you approve it.
Technical fixes come first, because nothing else works if Google can't properly crawl your store. Then we improve your highest-value categories and products before adding anything new, and validate your structured data along the way. Changes are tested before going live.
Each month we expand your eCommerce SEO content, strengthen internal links and build authority. You get a plain-English report from your own accounts showing clicks, orders and revenue from organic search, plus what's next. We review priorities with you every month.

In eCommerce SEO, rankings are a means, not the goal. We set up eCommerce tracking in Google Analytics so we can report on orders and revenue from organic search, alongside Search Console data on clicks and impressions. When a category climbs but sales don’t follow, we look at why, whether that’s the wrong search intent, a weak product page or a price that isn’t competitive. Every recommendation we make is tied to a page and a reason, so you can always see how the work connects to your bottom line.
We won’t take on a store that competes directly with yours for the same products in the same market while we’re working together. Your category strategy, keyword research and growth plans stay with you. If a potential client would put us in that position, we tell them up front and step back.
We work inside online stores every week, dealing with real product catalogues, seasonal ranges, messy filters and platform quirks. store, we consolidated 1496 duplicate category pages and organic revenue grew 73% over 9 month. That experience means we know which fixes actually move sales.
Everything we report comes from accounts you own: Search Console, Google Analytics and Merchant Center. We don’t hide results behind a private dashboard you can’t check. You’ll see exactly what we changed each month and why, what worked, and what didn’t. If something isn’t working, we’ll say so and explain what we’re changing. And if you ever decide to move on, all your data, content and access stay with you. There’s nothing to hand back and nothing held hostage. Reports are written in plain English, with the numbers explained rather than just exported.
Because we also run Google Ads and build Shopify and WordPress stores, we can join the dots between eCommerce SEO, ads and development. Ads data shows which search terms actually convert, which shapes your SEO priorities. And if a fix needs development work, we can handle it without passing you between three different agencies and waiting on three different timelines. One team, one plan and one monthly report covering every channel we manage for you.
Online retail runs on a calendar: Black Friday, Christmas, end-of-financial-year sales and your own product launches. Category and gift pages need to be live and indexed well before demand peaks, not the week it starts. We use Google Trends and your own sales history to plan content and updates ahead of time, then adjust priorities as each season’s results come in. For stores selling overseas, we plan around each market’s own sale seasons too.
Share your store URL and your biggest challenge. We'll reply with honest next steps, even if that isn't hiring us.

Straight answers to the eCommerce SEO questions we hear most from online store owners, based on our experience and on what Google's own Search Central documentation says.
How long does eCommerce SEO take?
eCommerce SEO timelines depend on your store’s size, its history and how competitive your products are. Technical fixes can show up in Search Console within weeks, because Google needs to recrawl the pages first. Growth in organic orders usually builds over several months. Stores with strong existing pages often see movement sooner than brand-new stores. After your audit, we’ll give you a realistic view for your situation, not a promise we can’t back up. We’ll also show you early indicators to watch, like impressions and indexed pages, so you can see progress before sales catch up.
Should I delete out-of-stock product pages?
Not if the product is coming back. Keep the page live, show that it’s out of stock, and update the availability in your structured data. If a product is gone for good, Google recommends either returning a proper 404 or 410, or redirecting to a genuinely relevant replacement, such as the newer model. Don’t redirect everything to your homepage, and don’t show a “not found” message on a page that still returns a 200 status. Google treats that as a soft 404. For seasonal items, keeping the page live also preserves the links and history it has already built up.
Can I use the manufacturer's product descriptions?
You can, and Google doesn’t penalise duplicate content in itself. But when dozens of retailers publish the same description, Google groups those pages together and usually shows only one of them, often the manufacturer’s or the biggest retailer’s. Adding your own useful details, such as sizing advice, real photos, compatibility notes or honest pros and cons, gives Google a reason to show your page and gives shoppers a reason to buy from you. Start with your best-selling products.
Do filters and faceted navigation hurt SEO?
They can. Every combination of filters, like colour, size, price and sort order, can create a new URL, and a store with a few hundred products can end up with thousands of near-duplicate pages. That wastes Google’s crawling on pages nobody searches for. The fix isn’t to remove filters, because shoppers need them. It’s to decide which filtered pages deserve to rank, such as “black leather boots”, and control how the rest are crawled using canonical tags, robots.txt rules and clean internal linking. As part of the audit, we’ll show you which filter pages are worth keeping.
Will eCommerce SEO get my products into Google Shopping and AI Overviews?
It makes them eligible, which is the part you control. Free Shopping listings rely on a Merchant Center feed, while rich product results rely on accurate Product structured data. For AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says there are no special extra requirements; they draw on the same core search systems, and Google recommends Merchant Center for product visibility. Nobody can guarantee your products will appear, but without these basics in place, they almost certainly won’t show up at all. We check your feed and product markup as part of the free audit.
